Actually Singlish does have a function - but not at the workplace- it's place is when we're among Singaporean friends, at the market, etc. it's what we might call our comfort language - something we use to identify ourselves as Singaporeans apart from others. But at the global workplace where you have many different nationalities working together, a more standard form of Englis gives you as a professional the polish you need to to impress both employers and clients.
